Istanbul – the glorious faery of the Antiquity

One of the most populated and largest world cities, Istanbul is highly unlikely to disappoint any visitor with what it has to offer. Situated on the two sides of the historical waterway Bosphorus, its numerous secrets, only a few of which have been found out, maintain a mysterious magical atmosphere for the tourists. Under different names and reigns, the city we know as Istanbul nowadays has passed the millennial historical way from the Neolith (7th millennium BC) to nowadays. Officially, the town was founded by King Byzas in 660 BC with the name Byzantium. After being under Persian and Greek authority for centuries, it gained independence in 355 BC and in 73 AD it became a part of the Roman Empire. During the authority of Constantine the Great the citizens started referring to the city of Istanbul (as we know it today) as Constantinople.
