Kaleto – an archeological site in the area of town Mezdra

Kaleto is one of the most remarkable archeological sites in the area of Mezdra and in the territory of Bulgaria. Kaleto is a whole archeological complex, situated on the left shore of Iskur (a local river). Kaleto is a fortress, but it has not only scars from battles in the past, but it has also remains of the cultures of many nations, which were living there for a long time. The exact translation of the word kale to Turkish language means fortress. The word kale may be Turkish, but the Kaleto had another name, which is now forgotten. The word kale has probably overwritten the original word, which was describing this archeological site. The history of Kaleto has a connection with the origin of the Copper age. These are the times, when the people were using various stone tools to crush nuts and hut wild animals. However, the local people have begun to create a various useful instruments for them.
